The CPS Test started on arealme.com on September 5, 2019, with exactly one player on the first day. Seven years and 42 million tests later, it is getting a site of its own: cpstest.app.
Why a separate site
On arealme.com the whole test lived on one page. The test length, the mode and your result were things the page switched between, so there was no address for “the 1 second test” or “the right click test”. You could not bookmark one, send one to a friend, or find one from a search.
On cpstest.app every test length and every click mode has its own page, from the 1 second burst to the 900 second ultramarathon. Each page carries what is true for that test: its average, its place in the scoring table and its world records.
What is new
- Weekly leaderboards. Sign in with Google and your runs can go on a board for each test length. Every run is checked on our server before it is ranked, and each week’s fastest players go into the Hall of Fame.
- More tests. Besides the classic test there are Jitter, Right Click, Kohi and Drag Click versions.
- A new CPS Challenge. The game mode is now a ladder of monsters, each with its own rule. More in its own post.
- Statistics and a blog. The numbers behind the test now have their own page, and the changelog goes back to 2019.
What stays the same
The live chart, the ripples, the animal ranks and the result screen work exactly as before. Your personal records are still kept in your browser. Each finished test sends an anonymous summary (the test length, the number of clicks and the type of device), which is how the averages stay current; your name only goes on a board if you sign in and choose to compete. The world records, each backed by a video, came with us.
The site is fully static and has no framework to download, so the test is ready as soon as the page appears.
Thank you for clicking with us since 2019.
