Changelog
Every change to the CPS Test since it launched on September 5, 2019. RSS feed
2026
-
The CPS Test is live on cpstest.app
cpstest.app used to be the page for the CPS Test apps. It is now the test itself: every test length on its own page, the leaderboards, the Country Cup and the CPS Challenge.
-
Your progress
A training log for signed-in players: runs, days practised, average and best CPS by week and by month, for every test length.
-
A quieter look
One background, fewer boxes, and the page steps back while a test is running so only the box and the chart stay bright. The homepage is now about the CPS test in general; the 10 second test has its own page.
-
A live leaderboard
The board beside the test now shows the best run of each player among the last 100 verified runs at that length, and refreshes by itself. Players appear once their nickname and picture have been reviewed. The weekly board and the Hall of Fame carry on as before.
-
Faster result card and length switching
The result card now assembles its animal in under a second. A click on another test length shows at once which one is loading.
-
Custom test length
The row of lengths ends with Custom: type any length from 1 second to 60 minutes. Custom runs are kept in the local leaderboard of your browser.
-
Country Cup
Signed-in players can choose a country in their profile. Every week, countries are ranked on the 10 second test by the best runs of their five fastest players added together.
-
CPS Challenge: a leaderboard and fewer words
The Challenge has a leaderboard, on its page and under Leaderboard. A level now shows its HP, time and pace as numbers, and a rule is explained in full only the first time you meet it.
-
The 10 second test has its own page
The 10 s tab now opens /10-seconds/, named and described like every other length. The homepage still runs the 10 second test.
-
Apply for a world record from the test page
Sign in, link a video of your run and follow the review in the world records section of the test. A fast run offers the application on its result card, with the run’s click log attached. Drag click records have their own table and need the mouse model.
-
A tighter layout beside the test
The leaderboards start at the top of the page next to the test, with a new “Where you stand” panel. Fullscreen moved from the menu bar to the test toolbar.
-
A statistics page
Average CPS by test length and by country, and where each score ranks, from 42 million tests.
-
Clearer leaderboards
The animals on the weekly boards are now clearly marked as pace setters. They show a speed to beat and never take a rank from a player.
-
Drag Click Test
A version of the test for drag clicking, the technique that drags a finger across the button to turn friction into clicks. Drag scores stay out of the shared leaderboards.
-
The CPS Challenge becomes a monster ladder
Every level is now a monster with its own rule: armor that only breaks at speed, a mirror that punishes it, spikes, bombs, and a boss every ten levels. The ladder never ends, and fights on an account are replayed by our server before they count.
-
Comments under every test
Every test page has a discussion section for questions, tips and records. If you are signed in on the site, you are signed in to the comments too.
-
Jitter, Right Click and Kohi tests
Three versions of the test for different techniques, each with six lengths and its own records.
-
Weekly leaderboards and the Hall of Fame
Sign in with Google to put your runs on a weekly board for each test length. Every run is checked on our server first, and each week’s winners are kept in the Hall of Fame.
-
Rebuilt for cpstest.app
The CPS Test is rebuilt from scratch for its own domain. Every test length has its own page, pages load without a framework, and the chart, ripples and animals work exactly as before.
-
Three world records removed
Three records were taken off the list after their video evidence went offline. Every record on the list must have a video we can watch.
-
CPS Test 2.0
A full redesign on arealme.com, with world records you can filter by device and technique, player statistics and a longer FAQ.
2025
-
Chart axis label
Fixed a typo on the chart’s axis labels.
-
No ads while you click
No ads appear while a test is running.
-
Two lines on the chart
The chart shows your average CPS and your real-time CPS at the same time, and marks left, middle and right clicks differently.
2024
-
The 900 second ultramarathon
Fifteen minutes of clicking, added after a request from Andy, one of our most loyal players. Please take breaks.
2023
-
Right Click CPS Test
A version of the test where only the right mouse button counts.
-
Smoother on 120 Hz screens
The chart and ripples no longer stutter on Macs with 120 Hz displays.
2022
-
CPS Challenge 7.6
More missions, harder levels and trophies along the way.
-
The first CPS Challenge
A game mode made of clicking missions: hit a target a number of times, stop on red, stay inside a moving zone.
-
A musical easter egg
A musical easter egg is hidden somewhere in the test. We are not saying where.
-
Personal records
The test now remembers your best score for every length. Your records stay in your browser.
2021
-
Your CPS animal
The result screen is redrawn around an animal rank, from a sloth for a slow start to a peregrine falcon for the fastest clicks, with the speed your CPS would be in km/h and mph.
2020
-
Sharp ripples on Safari
The click ripples looked blurry in Safari. They are crisp again.
-
The live CPS chart
Your clicks per second are now drawn on a chart while you click, instead of appearing as one number at the end.
2019
-
Ripples and accurate tracking on phones
Taps on a phone or tablet now draw the same ripples as mouse clicks, and every touch is counted where it lands.
-
The CPS Test goes live
The CPS Test opens on arealme.com. On the first day it had exactly one player, a friend of ours in Canada. Twenty-seven more friends tried it the next day.
Entries before September 2026 shipped on arealme.com, where the test started.
