“Is 8 CPS good?” is the question we get most. The honest answer depends on the length of the test, so here is the whole ladder from the 42 million tests taken on the CPS Test since 2019.
The 10 second test
This is the test most people compare. It is the default on the home page.
| 10 second score | Where it ranks |
|---|---|
| 12.6 CPS or more | top 0.94% |
| 11.3 | top 2.12% |
| 10.2 | top 3.62% |
| 9.8 | top 5.92% |
| 8.6 | top 9.47% |
| 8.0 | top 14.80% |
| 7.2 | top 22.05% |
| 6.6 | top 30.70% |
| 4.6 | bottom 22.13% |
| 4.0 | bottom 15.75% |
| 3.5 | bottom 10.36% |
Put simply:
- Around 6 CPS is a normal score for someone who has not practised.
- 8 CPS or more puts you ahead of roughly 85% of players.
- 10 CPS or more is about the top 5%. Very few people get there with one relaxed finger; this is where jitter and butterfly clicking start to matter.
- 12.6 CPS or more is the top 1%. If you get there, film it: that is the range where we start to see world record submissions.
The average across all 10 second tests is 6.66 CPS, a little above the middle of the table because a small number of very fast players pull it up.
Shorter tests score higher
In a one second test you only need one burst, so the same hand scores more:
| 1 second score | Where it ranks |
|---|---|
| 16 CPS or more | top 0.94% |
| 13 | top 5.92% |
| 12 | top 9.47% |
| 10 | top 22.05% |
| 9 | top 30.70% |
Longer tests score lower
Over three minutes, everybody slows down. 8.2 CPS in the marathon ranks about the same as 8.6 in the 10 second test, and 10.7 CPS for three minutes is top 1%:
| 180 second score | Where it ranks |
|---|---|
| 10.7 CPS or more | top 0.94% |
| 9.7 | top 3.62% |
| 8.2 | top 9.47% |
| 7.0 | top 22.05% |
| 6.5 | top 30.70% |
What about games?
In Minecraft PvP, speed only helps if your hits land, and modern versions limit how often an attack does full damage. Still, the usual rule of thumb among players is that 6 to 8 CPS with good aim wins most fights, and competitive players sit between 10 and 14. Be careful above that: many servers treat 15 to 20 CPS as a sign of an auto clicker.
For everyday use, none of this matters. Nobody needs 10 CPS to use a computer; it is a test of hands, not of how good you are at anything else.
